Type Locality and Naming

In the Karakol area, Kyzylkum. N.A. Kogay, 1959 (382, p.128).

Synonym: Karakol Suite, Каракольская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Proluvial gravel, sandy-loamy and gravel-pebble mixtures, locally gypsified. Thickness up to 11 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Lies with erosion on the Aytym Fm of the Cretaceous and Paleozoic.

Upper contact

Schematic stratigraphic column indicates the upper contact as Khodzhakul-Quat Fm

Regional extent

Submontane proluvial plain at the northern slope of the Sultanuizdag ridge and surfaces corresponding to this level on the southern slopes. Correlated with the Karnab Gr of the Zarafshan and Kashkadarya river basins, the Nadkul-Kuduk Fm of Central Kyzylkum.

Age 

The age of the suite is determined by geomorphological features as occupying a lower geomorphological level than the Knyazbulak Fm. In the Strat. Sl. (444) it is attributed to the complex of the Middle Quaternary age. Used in the stratigraphic scheme of Quaternary deposits (A.I. Kim et al., 2000).
